The weather has been ideal, the crowds are light, and the fish have put on the feed bag, especially the mountain trout. Red Feather waters are producing well and worth the drive. A number of urban waters, such as Thornton Gravel Ponds, have been receiving trout stockings. Just expect crowds as folks follow the trucks. Horsetooth is seeing good action for trout, and Boyd is producing perch for those working the weedy shallows. Denver-area reservoirs Arvada, Aurora, Chatfield and Cherry Creek have all been a bit slow. Cherry Creek is the best bet for walleye at this time, with bottom bouncers and a worm harness. Smaller ponds continue to fish well for bluegill and largemouth. Let the waters warm a bit before going out. Afternoons and evenings are best.
