About 40 cats were removed Tuesday from a home in Colorado Springs.

Joe Stafford, director of animal law enforcement for the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, said a warrant was executed at the home, on Pecos Drive.

Stafford said because an investigation is ongoing, the exact address and the name of the homeowner are not being given.

Stafford said it has yet to be determined whether charges will be filed.

“The first priority is making sure the cats get the care that they need. Then we need to try to get the homeowner some assistance,” he said.

“In my opinion, it’s unhealthy for him to be inside that home. … It’s a pretty horrific situation there.”
