Interview with Angelica McConico, owner
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I have always loved antiques and this store in particular. I wanted the store back in 2000 when it was Furniture, Etc. When the opportunity arose again, after having been a dealer at the Wagon, I bought the store. The rewards have thus far been endless.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: This is the only place where you will be greeted by the Duke, serenaded by Elvis, welcomed by Marilyn, and George Burns is always on hand to administer advice. This store is family-owned and operated. We pride ourselves on providing a unique journey into the past, present and future.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I like the people best (second only to the stuff). Our dealers are some of the best in the business. Our customers — wow. We have a dedicated customer following that is closer than a lot of families. The variety of merchandise is awesome — a little bit of everything. We also sell for the public on consignment, 50/50. So there are always people around with new stuff and “dead people’s stuff,” which we prefer to call “antiques.”
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Keeping quality merchandise at affordable pricing is a huge challenge. Also, keeping quality traffic coming in. This is why we are an antique mall, but our pricing is very competitive with flea markets, thrift stores and even garage sales.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: You name it, we sell it — past, present and future. No reasonable offer is ever refused. Everything is up for barter. If we don’t have it, we will do our best to assist your search for it. You will find this to be a very clean and friendly environment in which to enjoy your journey.
