Eleven people were treated and at least one child remains hospitalized after members of a local archery club were exposed to carbon monoxide Monday at the Greeley Recreation Center.

About 15 adults and children were at an archery practice session from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the archery range in the basement of the recreation center, said Jim Flores, vice president of the Greeley Archers.

Shortly before 8:45 p.m., Flores’ wife complained of not feeling well and decided to go outside for some fresh air. She returned to the range a few moments later, telling her husband she barely had the strength to walk up the stairs and suspected something might be seriously wrong.

About the same time, other archers complained of headaches and nausea, and at least one child had difficulty maintaining his balance.

Flores recognized his wife’s intuition was accurate and recommended everyone evacuate the basement and head outside.
