A woman attempting to stop a moving RTD bus on Thursday suffered serious injuries to her leg.

The incident , which occurred at East 9th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard at about 6:30 p.m., caused lengthy traffic slowdowns, according to Denver Police.

RTD spokesman Scott Reed said the Route 40 bus was pulling away from the curb and travelling north on Colorado when a woman ran up and banged on the side of the bus in an attempt to get it to stop. Reed said she somehow became entangled and made contact with one of the rear tires, suffering injuries in the process.

The unidentified victim was transported to an area hospital.

“We always tell people that they should never run after a bus after it’s started moving.” Reed said. “That can be a very serious situation — unfortunately, that was borne out this evening.”
