BOULDER — Colorado football coach Mike MacIntyre took pride last fall, his first season with Buffaloes, in having a disciplined team.

The 2013 Buffs ranked third among Pac-12 teams in fewest penalties, being flagged for only 38.4 yards per game in penalties. That trailed leader Arizona State (31.4) and Arizona (36.8).

This season, MacIntyre can’t make that claim.

The 2013 Buffs rank 11th in penalties, drawing flags that result in an average of 80 yards per game. That’s better than only Oregon State’s average of 82.5 penalty yards per game.

MacIntyre was asked about penalties following Monday’s practice. He did not have much of an explanation.

“I think we’re doing things the same exact way as last year,” MacIntyre said. “It’s just the way it’s been. Penalties are up all over the league.

We just keep working. We definitely want to cut down on them, there’s no doubt about that.”

FOOTNOTES. In no surprise, Southern California junior quarterback Cody Kessler was named Pac-12 offensive player of the week. In the blowout win over Colorado, Kessler threw for seven touchdowns. That set a USC single-game record. … CU’s Nov. 1 home game against Washington was selected Monday for telecast over the Pac-12 Network. Kickoff at Folsom Field will be 11 a.m. No word if concessions will offer bacon and eggs.
