FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — New details about a shooting that left a man dead and a Fort Collins police officer injured are expected to be released Monday.
The officer was responding to a request for a welfare check Oct. 5 when he approached a man lying in the stairwell of a town house complex. Investigators say 27-year-old Tino Martinez pulled a gun and shot the officer and the officer fired back.
Both were taken to a hospital, where Martinez died. The officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A review by the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office is expected to include the officer’s name, how many shots were fired, the type of gun used and details about what led to the shooting.
