Disciplinary action was taken against a Teller County Sheriff’s Office deputy who posted a derogatory comment about Muslims on social media, but the deputy will not be fired, department officials said Wednesday.

Deputy Eric Voigt became the subject of an internal affairs investigation after the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about a comment he made on another person’s Facebook post, sheriff’s Lt. Marc Porcelli said.

Screenshots of the Facebook conversation were sent to media outlets, including The Gazette’s news partner, KKTV.
