Police in Broomfield have arrested a man in connection with a hazardous materials situation on after an “unknown substance” was discovered and later deemed safe.

John Anthony Martinez, 42, of Longmont, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal tampering and theft, police said.

Martinez posted $2,500 bond and is next due in court Dec. 11.

“Broomfield detectives have identified another male suspect and are in the process of presenting charges against him for his involvement in this case,” police said.

A “white, powdery substance” was found on a desk by an employee on the 2600 block of West Midway Boulevard late Thursday morning. The substance didn’t test positive as a biological or hazardous agent.

The substance prompted the evacuation of more than 100 people for several hours.

Two employees who came into contact with the mystery substance were decontaminated as a precaution.
