PARKER — Do it, Dewing! Do it!
Austin Dewing again was at the front of Air Academy’s incredible boys soccer season that has one more game to go.
The senior forward scored goals in each of the third and fourth minutes on Wednesday night, then added a third 15 minutes later as the Kadets rolled D’Evelyn 6-1 in the Class 4A semifinals at Sports Authority Stadium.
Runners-up a year ago, the Kadets improved to 19-0 and there appears to be no stopping them heading into Saturday’s finale at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. They are enjoying the season like a teenager after getting his driver’s license.
“Definitely, we’ve been here before and we’re glad to be back with a little bit of a chip on our shoulders,” Dewing said.
A chip? It’s more like a boulder. The Kadets have now outscored teir 2014 opposition by a combined 100-5. Three of the goals allowed have come in the playoffs. And they have had 15 shutouts.
“I think we were ready for this game,” Air Academy coach Espen Hosoien said. “We prepared well in practice. The first half was good, it was like we wanted to play.”
Oh, the Kadets wanted to play — and they did. Dewing scored a quick hat trick in less than half of the first half as Air Academy took a 4-0 halftime lead. They pushed his total on the year to a whopping 34 (along with 22 assists). David Louthan, Blake Doran and Mason Reiter also found the back of the net.
D’Evelyn, which ended 1-3, finally scored in the 56th minute on a goal by Dewitt Davis, but the Kadets were clearly superior all the way around — in ball-handling, passing, moving the ball, moving without the ball and foot speed.
“I think these guys just like to compete,” Hosoien said. “They’re a heck of a good soccer team, a lot of good players.”
When asked how much fun it is to be a a team this good, Dewing, who said he would love to get into the Air Force Academy, cracked a smile.
“It’s great,” he said. “My teammates are phenomenal and I couldn’t ask for a better bunch of guys.”
