Adult Swim’s hilarious, nightmarish has been collecting page views and infecting brains with its earworm theme song since it was posted on YouTube four days ago (1.6 million and counting, as of this writing).

But as much as people have been dissecting its twisted meta-commentary, which subverts 1980s and ’90s TV tropes with a violent, Tim and Eric-style VHS panache, no one seems to have noticed that it’s set in the Mile High City.

This realization came last night as I was watching it for the second time that day, when Denver Post contributor Kathleen St. John (full disclosure: I’m her husband) pointed out that the super-brief but unmistakable establishing shot at the very beginning is, indeed, of downtown Denver.

A screen capture of the opening shot of the “Too Many Cooks” video, which has gone viral in recent days. (Adult Swim)

From the looks of it, it’s somewhat period-appropriate with the ’80s/’90s subject matter of the video, given that the CenturyLink building still has the old Qwest logo emblazoned on it (though you can also make out the Hyatt Regency across from the Colorado Convention Center, which was built in 2005, so the stock footage is clearly not THAT old).

In any event, have fun re-watching the video and imagining that these creepy, insane things are happening somewhere in your hometown.
