Evergreen Park and Recreation District’s board of directors has chosen Ellen O’ Connor as its new executive director.

The board was unanimous in its decision to appoint O’Connor, who has served as the district’s recreation manager and interviewed by the board at a public meeting Nov. 11, the final step in the search process.

“The decision was based on Ellen’s familiarity with the district, her extensive qualifications and the sense that her background was ultimately the most well suited to Evergreen and its constituents,” the board said in a release.

O’Connor has been the district’s recreation manager since 2008 and served as co-interim director during the search, which was launched after and American Mountaineering Museum.

Prior to working for Evergreen Park and Recreation District, O’Connor was the children and youth program supervisor for Foothills Park and Recreation District for 10 years, and camp and day programs services administrator for Lakewood’s park and recreation for 10 years.

Evergreen Park and Recreation District serves approximately 22,000 residents and covers nearly 50,000 acres, making it one of the largest park districts in the state. It has 10 parks, three facilities, including Evergreen Lake and Lake House, and numerous trails.
