Getting your player ready...

Peter Forsberg swears it won’t happen.

“No, I’m not going to cry,” said Forsberg, who will give his acceptance speech as a new member of the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night in Toronto.

Lots of players have said that before, only to succumb to the emotion of the moment. But Forsberg said the chances of that happening will be cut down because his speech won’t last long.

“I’m just going to cut and paste whatever (Joe) Sakic’s was. Whatever he said, expect me to say too,” Forsberg said. “But, no, I have some people to thank and that’s mostly what I plan on doing.”

Forsberg, 41, will be joined by former Avs defenseman Rob Blake in the induction ceremony, which can be seen on the NHL Network starting at 6 p.m.

They will become the fifth and sixth former Avs players to enter the Hall, joining Sakic, Patrick Roy, Ray Bourque and Jari Kurri.

“It’s a special honor, something I’ve gotten more and more excited about,” Forsberg said. “To see your name next to guys like Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe, it’s hard to believe.”

Several of Forsberg’s former teammates, including Sakic and Dan Hinote, have joined him for the weekend. Forsberg’s family is there as well, along with Blake’s.
