Yesterday a Ferguson grand jury revealed they would not pursue charges against police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown. That night ahead of the band’s show in St. Louis, ‘ Killer Mike — who has been vocal since Brown’s death in August — delivered a passionate speech about the decision.
“You kicked me on my ass today, because I have a 20-year-old son and a 12-year-old son, and I’m so afraid for them today,” Mike said, his voice cracking with emotion. “I stood in front of my wife and I cried and I said, ‘these motherf got me today.'”
The speech lasts about five minutes in total, and before Run The Jewels jumps into its first song Mike gives the audience one last call to action:
“It is not about race. It is not about class. It is about what they killed him for. It is about poverty, it is about greed and it is about a war machine that uses you as a battery. I might go tomorrow. I might go the day after. It is us against the mother f* machine. Let’s go.”
Ahead of Run The Jewels , we on the 90th day since Brown’s death.
“What we shouldn’t do is say nothing,” Mike told Reverb’s Ru Johnson. “We need to write our state representatives, our attorney general, and demand some action. Thatap the only way to get justice.”
