Sirius XM Radio customers may be eligible to get a piece of the $3.8 million settlement announced Thursday over misleading advertising and billing practices.
The Colorado attorney general’s office was one of 45 states that said Sirius XM violated consumer protection laws for a period of six years.
According to the investigation, consumers complained about difficulty canceling contracts, unauthorized fees and contracts renewing automatically without notice or consent.
As part of the settlement, Sirius XM agreed to disclose all terms clearly, advertise rates accurately, provide advance notice on automatic renewals, make it easier for customers to cancel service and prohibit incentivizing customer service reps solely for retaining customers attempting to cancel.
The settlement covers consumers who were customers between July 28, 2008, to Dec. 4, 2014.
Eligible Coloradans must file a complaint with the state attorney general’s office at by May 3.
Consumers also can file a complaint with Sirius online at or by mailing a complaint to Sirius at P.O. Box 33059, Detroit, MI, 48232-5059.
