Nordic celebration

Tommelfest kicks off ski season at Devil’s Thumb Ranch on Dec. 13. This seasonal celebration features family activities like free ski lessons, sleigh rides, horse tubing and team relays, along with a Norwegian keg toss, a Viking hat competition and more. All events take place at Devils Thumb Ranch, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Walk for chocolate

Sign up for downtown Grand Junction’s Chocolate Walk on Dec. 12. Take in the holiday lights on this walking tour of Main Street while sipping on a commemorative mug filled with hot chocolate. Tickets are $10. Tours begin at 5:30 p.m.

Christmas at Copper

Copper Mountain brings holiday cheer to the mountains, with “Twelve Days of Copper” beginning Dec. 20. With holiday parties, ski and snowboard competitions, happy hours and more, the festivities conclude with a Christmas Eve Pageant and Parade on Dec. 24, and a New Year’s Eve Celebration on Dec. 31.

Santa rides in Steamboat

Steamboat Springs’ Holiday Festival is Dec. 21. In the afternoon, you can watch Santa ride down the slopes on horseback, decorate holiday cookies and visit Santa’s workshop and in the evening enjoy a torchlight parade, fireworks and night skiing.
