Denver police investigate the scene where four Denver police officers on bicycles were hit and injured by a vehicle on Wednesday. (Andy Cross, The Denver Post)

Re: “Four Denver cops hit by car amid Ferguson protest; one in critical condition,” Dec. 4 news story.

I was at Odgen and Colfax on Wednesday when the East High School students marched by. First, the motorcycle cops came by, followed by the bicycle patrol, followed by the students. The students were having a wonderful day skipping school. They were yelling, “Hands up, don’t shoot,” plus hurling profanities at the police, taking selfies and having a great time.

If they think that they were honoring Michael Brown, they were mistaken. They were acting like it was a day at Elitch Gardens. Several also enjoyed giving me the “finger salute.” The cops were there to make sure of the students’ safety. To hear that one policeman was seriously hurt and three others injured is tragic.
