A Saturday night fire at a Victorian-style house in central Denver caused significant damage, but the blaze caused no injuries, fire officials said.

A passerby called 911 about 6:30 p.m. and reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the roof of the house in the 1500 block of Vine Street, said Denver Fire Capt. Greg Pixley.

Pixley said firefighters arrived to find a significant blaze underway. They eventually had to change tactics and had to exit the house, he said. They then surrounded the building and doused it with water to subdue the fire, he said.

Pixley said one inhabitant was accounted for at the scene and escaped with no injuries.

Pixley said the firefighters re-entered the building after getting the fire under control. The fire was extinguished by 8:30 p.m. He said the cause of the fire is unknown.
