Ward 4 Councilman and local business owner Adam Paul announced Monday that he will be running for Lakewood mayor in 2015.

In an email to supporters, Paul, 37, said he will formally file paperwork with the city clerk’s office later this week.

“It’s been my honor to serve the people of Lakewood on City Council for the past seven years — and I’ve learned just as much about responsive leadership as I have about the city I’ve lived in my entire life,” Paul said. “Those lessons, coupled with the 15 years I’ve run my own business, give me the confidence to seek the mayor’s office.”

He’s the first to announce candidacy to replace term-limited Mayor Bob Murphy, who has served as mayor since being elected in 2007.

states he was born and raised in Lakewood, attended high school at Green Mountain and graduated with a degree in political science from the University of Colorado at Denver.

First elected to council in 2007, Paul currently serves as mayor pro-tem and council president. He is the owner and operator of Colorado Corporate Car, an executive transportation service.
