Mayor Michael Hancock and a number of community partners, including the Colorado Latino Forum, the NAACP and Denver Public Schools will conduct a forum on “Race and Justice in the Mile High City,” Friday afternoon at the History Colorado Center.

The forum, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., will be the first in a series of public conversations announced by the mayor after protests in Denver in support of demonstrators in Ferguson, Mo., and New York City.

The protests were sparked by grand jury decisions in those two cities to not indict white police officers in the deaths of two black men.

After from Denver South High School on Dec. 8, Hancock said that while he appreciated their passion, the students would be better served by returning to the classroom.

He then announced the public conversations, with students invited to participate.

The history museum is at 1200 Broadway.
