It should come as no surprise that our governor is celebrating his second term with a concert featuring some of the biggest acts out of Colorado. Gov. John Hickenlooper has established himself as a genuine music fan. He ran ads with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, he hopped on stage at Red Rocks to perform with Old Crow Medicine Show this summer and made an appearance at The Denver Post’s Underground Music Showcase. We even ran into him at that Katy Perry concert at Lakewood High School. On Jan. 13, his inauguration concert will feature the Lumineers, String Cheese Incident and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. The Colorado music scene has truly reached new heights within the past decade. In terms of live music venues and number of bands (and famous bands), it’s one of the top cities in the country. But this progress couldn’t have been possible without the lush music history that the state is known for. That’s where the Colorado Music Hall of Fame comes into play, to preserve and honor some of the greats. This year, the CMHOF honors Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Firefall and Poco with a concert at the Paramount Theatre on Jan. 9. ($39, )
