Re: “Hefley: Protect Browns Canyon,” Jan. 6 guest commentary.

Many, many thanks to Joel Hefley for advocating Browns Canyon National Monument. He accurately describes the views of the vast majority of Chaffee County citizens, businesses and municipalities. And he is correct that Rep. Doug Lamborn’s insistence on an even greater consensus is nothing but a delaying tactic.

We recall with gratitude Hefley’s years as Chaffee County’s congressman. He was an impartial leader and a good listener, a far cry from Lamborn’s neglect of our area’s needs and opposition to our views. Under Lamborn, Chaffee County has been effectively disenfranchised.
