Former Colorado Senate President John Morse gives his concession speech after being defeated in a recall election on Sept. 10, 2013. (Helen H. Richardson, The Denver Post)

Our General Assembly has returned and battle lines are emerging on hot-button issues. I am a registered unaffiliated voter and I would like to see something passed concerning recall elections. I am still upset over the last legislative recall elections that were held. Recalls should only be held when the lawmaker being recalled has done something illegal. We shouldn’t be able to recall someone just because we don’t agree with their vote; we always have the option to vote them out at the next election if we do not like the way they are representing us. Our state is always complaining about not having enough money for different projects but ends up having to pay for special elections. If we insist on having special elections, the number of petition signatures should be raised.
