Police in Pueblo are searching for an armed and dangerous man wanted in the slaying of his 8-months-pregnant girlfriend.
Joseph Romero, 56, is wanted on suspicion of second-degree murder and his location is unknown, authorities say.
Police found the body of Phenia Martinez, a 25-year-old mother of two, on Monday while executing a search warrant. Martinez had been reported missing on Friday before she was found dead inside the home she shared with Romero on the 1900 block of West 13th Street.
“The preliminary cause of death is believed to be homicide, pending autopsy results,” police said.
Officials did not release further information in the slaying.
Martinez was last seen on Jan. 5 at the home where she was later found dead. She failed to pick up her children at school that day and missed a doctor’s appointment.
Police immediately connected Romero with her disappearance.
Martinez’s two children are in the custody of their grandmother, officials said.
Police ask anyone with information on the killing or Romero’s whereabouts to call them at (719) 542-7867.
