SUNRISE, Fla. — Winger Dennis Everberg was back with the Avalanche and played against the Florida Panthers after being recalled from the Lake Erie Monsters.

This is Everberg’s third stint with the Avalanche this season, the first for the 23-year-old Swede since he signed with Colorado and came to North America. He skated on a line with John Mitchell and Borna Rendulic.

Rendulic suffered a foot injury in the first period, though, and didn’t return, leaving the Avalanche short a forward for the rest of the night. He finished with only 1:54 of ice time in Colorado’s 4-2 win.

Other moves. The Avalanche sent center Ben Street, who played against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday after being unavailable since Nov. 25 because of a hand injury, to Lake Erie.

And center Marc-Andre Cliche was a healthy scratch for only the second time this season. He also missed five games with an oblique injury.

Defenseman Zach Redmond’s streak as a healthy scratch reached nine games.

Barrages. Before meeting the Panthers, Colorado had faced an average of 43 shots in the previous five games. So it was significant that the Panthers were limited to 32 — including only nine in the third period.

“It was something we talked about before the game,” said Colorado coach Patrick Roy. “Of course, in the first, we had a couple of giveaways. They had a lot of chances in the first and (Sem- yon Varlamov) was very good. But I thought we regrouped after the first and were much better, cutting down on shots in the second and the third.”

Veteran defenseman Brad Stuart has been paired with Nick Holden.

“We’ve got to do a little bit better job of taking the middle away,” Stuart said after the morning skate. “We’ll give ’em shots from the outside all day when they want to take those. But we’re giving up some good, quality chances, and I think that’s from giving up the middle too easily.”
