A Littleton woman pleaded guilty on Thursday to stealing almost $10,000 from a high school volleyball team’s booster club that she served as treasurer of a year from 2012 to 2013.

Kathleen McGrath, 56, admitted to theft, a felony, in Jefferson County court. She faces up to six years in prison.

McGrath was charged after the coach of the Chatfield High School girl’s volleyball team called the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 because it appeared that money was missing from their account, the 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

The coach also reported they hadn’t been able to contact McGrath, the then-treasurer.

“Investigators believe that there were $9,976 in purchases and account withdrawals not related to booster club business,” the office said.

Funds in the account were made up of money raised through fundraising efforts organized by parent and players to benefit the team, the office said.

The majority of the funds were cash, which had been given to McGrath to deposit.
