After guiding the Cherry Creek football team to the 5A state championship this season, coach Dave Logan finished as a runner-up for the 2014 Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award, the NFL announced Friday.
Green Bay’s Bruce Larson won the award. Logan and Kansas City’s Gregg Webb were named runners-up.
Logan will receive a personal check for $2,500 and Cherry Creek will get $5,000.
Logan is the only head coach in high school football history to win championships with four different schools in a state’s highest classification. He also won titles with Arvada West (1997), Chatfield (2001) and Mullen (2004, 2008-10).
This is the second time he was nominated for the award — he was a contender in 2010 with Mullen.
