Firefighters responding Wednesday to a call at a home in Fountain discovered a dead body, with officials calling the circumstances of the death “suspicious in nature.”
An autopsy of the unidentified victim is scheduled for Thursday, officials said, as part of a joint investigation being conducted by the Fountain Fire Department, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
According to Fountain police, the fire department received a call after smoke detectors activated at a residence in the 900 block of Candlestar Loop S. At about 2:41 a.m., Fountain firefighters arrived and discovered a burning residence. The body was found a short time later.
Fountain police said it contacted the owner/landlord of the residence, who officials say is cooperating with the investigation.
Investigators are looking for other persons of interest that may be associated with the victim’s vehicle, which is missing from the residence.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle, a white 2006 Suzuki Reno Hatchback with Colorado License Plate No. 312-RXK.
