Alesya Casse, Dale Simpson and Michelle Gabrieloff-Parish are trying to prevent a prescribed burn on the site of the former Rocky Flats facility in Arvada. (Mark Leffingwell, Daily Camera)

Re: “Plutonium fears hex planned prescribed fires at Rocky Flats wildlife refuge,” Jan. 29 news story.

It was reassuring to hear from government officials that it will be safe to conduct a controlled burn at Rocky Flats, where plutonium was once used to produce nuclear bomb triggers. My suggestion as a sign of good faith would be to require the various federal and state officials and their families to attend the event (downwind, of course) and breathe in the harmless smoke. Any volunteers?
