GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — The Daily Sentinel reports a Grand Junction man police say they found passed out in his car could face his eighth alcohol-related driving conviction.
The paper reports (http://tinyurl.com/ledm32b) that County Judge Bruce Raaum on Thursday ordered Joseph Moya, 36, jailed on a $5,000 cash on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and other offenses. Raum told Moya that Colorado lawmakers on Thursday advanced a proposal to make a fourth DUI a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of as much as $500,000.
Police say when he was found near a park Wednesday, Moya said he was waiting for a driver to come for him.
A Mesa County Pretrial Services report says Moya has seven convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol in New Mexico and Colorado.
