Authorities in Douglas County are asking for the public’s help in finding those responsible for leaving at two separate Highlands Ranch parks this week.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says it is continuing their increased patrols in the parks and surrounding areas.

“Please be aware of your surroundings, stay away from trash and specifically away from plastic bottles that are capped that may have product inside of them,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Do not touch or disturb, stay away and call 911.”

The first device was found on Tuesday in Dad Clark Park off of McArthur Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch.

The child was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries after the incident, which officials said happened at about 2 p.m. Detectives said the device was created inside a plastic bottle.

The child was playing with four friends at the park when they saw the bottle on the basketball court and touched it. Detectives from the sheriff’s office searched the park after the blast, and no other devices were found.

The second device was discovered by deputies at Marcy Park, in the 9300 block of Desert Willow Road in Highlands Ranch on Wednesday.

“The device vented and therefore did not explode, and there are no injuries,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office declined to release a detailed description of the devices.

Anyone with information on the devices or suspects is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers (720) 913-7867.
