A Denver Public Schools bus driver will be cited after hitting a pedestrian in southwest Denver on Friday morning, police said.

The crash happened about 8:45 a.m. at the corner of West Warren Avenue and South Depew Street. Students were aboard when the collision happened, although none were injured.

Police said the victim was an elderly man — about 64 years old — who was crossing the street when he was hit. The man was taken to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

Students remained in their seats while police investigated. Officers spoke with the bus driver and students as part of their investigation.

A second bus was brought in to transport students from the scene.

If the victim’s injuries worsen, charges could be amended and become more serious, said Michael Farr, traffic investigations unit supervisor.

Farr said the kids on the bus were uninjured and that “it was almost like a field trip to them.”

The bus driver will be cited with failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, Farr said.
