Two local chefs are staging a cookoff tonight in Cherry Creek, competing to create the best heart-healthy meal on National Wear Red Day that helps raise awareness about heart disease.
Think throw-down, Iron Chef style.
Nutritionist and chef Nikki Shaw, wife of Nuggets coach Brian Shaw, will go up against Tim Kast, executive corporate chef at Bad Daddy s Burger Bar.
Food is such a large part of the culture in our community, and we wanted to highlight a way to learn to eat healthy without having to eat grass and tofu all the time, said Leslie Horna, spokeswoman for the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District, which is partnering with Denver s American Heart Association.
Experts at the cook-off will give people tips on how to dine out at restaurants, and make healthy food choices, along with giving information on healthy portion sizes and recipes for health home cooking.
The event is free to the public, and the food samples are also free. The fun starts at 4 p.m. at Beacon s Creative Community Space, 2630 E. 3rd Ave. in Cherry Creek North.
