Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning should retire, because of new systems and coaches being integrated on both sides of the football. But, more important, it seems the greatest athletes just don’t know when to hang ’em up. With all the changes at Dove Valley, there’s no way the Broncos will win the Super Bowl.

Kiz: Manning is a far better option at quarterback than Brock Osweiler. John Elway knows it, which explains why the Broncos desperately want Manning back. While I respect Manning’s reluctance to retire, I also respectfully say I covered Hall of Famers Dan Issel and Patrick Roy during the end of their careers in Denver. The inconsistency in the play of Manning down the stretch was more than injury; it was a telltale sign of athletic mortality. So here’s a modest proposal: If Manning returns to the Broncos, give him more than one bye week on the 2015 NFL schedule. Let Osweiler start at least one regular-season game and save Manning for the playoffs.
Writing a wrong. Here’s hoping you stick to writing about college basketball, Kiz. Your analysis of a young Nuggets team two years ago and recommendation of George Karl’s firing as coach demonstrated your lack of knowledge about the NBA. Hopefully you will never again write a column about the Nuggets.
Dave & Jane, happy hoops couple
Kiz: You are correct. Two years ago, I identified two problems for Nuggets long before they reached critical mass: 1) Andre Iguodala did not want to play in Denver, and 2) Karl was in trouble if the Nuggets suffered an upset in playoffs against Golden State. The blind squirrel and I thank you for the acorns.
Fan of forward progress. The Avalanche is having trouble scoring. You really think trading one of the team’s top forwards is the answer, Kiz? Gabe Landeskog and Nathan MacKinnon should go absolutely nowhere. I wouldn’t trade Matt Duchene, either. I agree the Avs need defense, but getting rid of their young stars would be certain death.
Sandra, finishes her checks
Kiz: Some Avs fans seem to think it’s OK to trade Ryan O’Reilly, because he had the nerve to stand up for himself during contract negotiations. It’s no coincidence O’Reilly also stands tall from end to end on the rink. So, if the team needs to keep all of its young forwards, perhaps the Avs should trade Semyon Varlamov for blue-line help and hand the goaltending duties to Calvin Pickard.
CU later, CSU. And today’s parting shot is from a CU Buffs supporter who wants to throw a football rivalry that dates to 1893 in the dumpster.
As a CU alum and ticket holder, I’m ready to see the Rocky Mountain Showdown go. Hate going to Denver for the game, and my desire to end the series has nothing to do with CSU winning two of the last three.
James, never gives in
