Re: “Do DSST schools have an unfair advantage?,” Feb. 8 Vincent Carroll column.
I’d like to thank you for this column. I have been a teacher at the DSST: Green Valley Ranch high school campus for the last three years. I run student council, poetry slams, and teach World History. I love the Denver School of Science and Technology network because students and staff are held to the same standard of excellence. Just as students are expected to learn from mistakes, so are teachers. I have become a more effective educator at DSST because of the network’s commitment to teacher development and values-driven leadership.
While DSST is by no means perfect, I think the earnest commitment to develop effective teachers and evaluation systems is one of the many reasons why students (and teachers) continue to flourish in our schools
