Day one of the 2015 Colorado state wrestling tournament proved fruitful for three sets of twin brothers.

The Prietos of Holy Family, the Willits of Pueblo County and the Finesilvers of Cherry Creek all advanced to the quarterfinals on Thursday at the Pepsi Center.

Holy Family senior Julian Prieto pinned Sterling’s Erick Krier in one minute, 46 seconds to move on in the Class 3A 138-pound bracket. His brother Joseph just about copied the performance, pinning Platte Canyon’s Gary Rhoades in 1:54.

In 5A, Cherry Creek junior Josh Finesilver had one of the fastest pinfalls of the day, taking down Devan Cogil in 27 seconds at 106 pounds. His brother Matt, who’s a bit bigger at 132 pounds, defeated Rock Canyon’s Josh Heifetz via pinfall in 3:46.

Sophomore sensations Grant and Hunter Willits — both champions as freshmen — continued their undefeated records at the state tournaments. Grant beat Roosevelt’s Derek Golden by technical fall in the 113-pound bracket. Hunter also proved his dominance with a technical fall victory over Roosevelt’s Harley Bending from Roosevelt at 138 pounds.
