COLORADO SPRINGS — The ninth-ranked University of Denver Pioneers came out on top after a wild second period and pulled away to take back the Gold Pan Trophy from Front Range rival Colorado College 6-4 on Friday night at the Broadmoor World Arena.
Denver freshman Danton Heinen recorded two goals and two assists, while senior linemate Daniel Dormeus added two goals to power the Pioneers to the win. He scored with 30 seconds left in the middle period to stake DU to a 4-3 lead.
Zac Larraza added a goal and two assists while playing on the top line for Trevor Moore, who served a one-game suspension Friday.
“Our top line played really well,” DU coach Jim Montgomery said. “I’m happy with the team’s effort overall. CC came out hard and had us on our heels in the first period, but we adjusted and did a better job getting the puck out of our zone.”
