A couple of cool factoids on Friday night from the wrestling tournament …
One, Meeker’s T.J. Shelton earned a pin in the Class 2A semifinals at 170 pounds. It pushed his season record to 36-2 and 103-10 in his career. The junior is going for his third straight title as a junior. If he wins it would be the third consecutive year Colorado will have had a wrestler trying to go four-for-four. In 2014, it was Phil Downing of Broomfield. This season, it’s Paonia’s Jesse Reed.
And, two, call it an interesting stair-step series for Holy Family’s Julian Prieto. As a freshman, he was fourth at 3A 113. As a sophomore, he was third at 120. And the postseason, he was runner-up at 132. On Saturday night, he’ll be taking a 42-1 mark into the 138 final.
