The first steps toward the talent evaluation portion of the season were made as soon as the Nuggets’ starting lineup was announced.
PG: Ty Lawson
SG: Gary Harris
SF: Danilo Gallinari
PF: Darrell Arthur
C: Jusuf Nurkic
To be fair, part of the very new-look starting lineup was in place because of an injury absence to Wilson Chandler, the regular starter at small forward. He had started alongside Gallo, who was slotted in at shooting guard during the Nuggets’ most recent road trip.
But, ultimately, coach Brian Shaw is getting a look at new players and rewarding those who bring the effort and effectiveness he’s looking for.
“The reality of it is, we have (26) games left,” Shaw said. “We’re not in playoff contention. And I just want our guys to go out and play hard, however long it is that they are out there. I let the team know that I’m going to give everybody looks, especially our new guys and some of our young guys. They will be playing more than they have up until this point.”
Shaw OK with Ty. Lawson had already regained his starting spot at point guard in the Nuggets’ game at Oklahoma City on Sunday, following a game in which he was a healthy scratch at Milwaukee as punishment. Lawson had an unexcused absence in last Wednesday’s practice, which was the team’s first coming back from the all-star break.
Asked whether he had talked to Lawson and everything between them was now in the past, Shaw smirked.
“Yep,” he said.
Robinson to sign with Nets. The Brooklyn Nets plan to sign forward Thomas Robinson once he clears waivers.
Robinson was waived Sunday by the Nuggets, who acquired him from the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday at the trade deadline.
The former No. 5 overall pick would probably sign Wednesday if no team claimed him.
