A 17-year-old boy jumped from his mother’s vehicle after it was stolen while he was still inside of it on Thursday night, Wheat Ridge police said.
The teen was washing his mother’s car near the intersection of West 28th Avenue and Chase Street when a man approached him and revealed the handle of a handgun. The man then commandeered the vehicle.
“The suspect drove off in the vehicle with the victim in the passenger seat,” police said. “The victim was able to notify his friends that he needed help using his cell phone. The victim’s father notified the police.”
The teen jumped from the vehicle near West 8th Avenue and Federal Boulevard, roughly four miles from where it was taken. The boy was uninjured, police said.
On Friday, Denver police arrested Felipe Bustamante, 32, in connection with another crime and seized the stolen vehicle.
Bustamante has been charged in Wheat Ridge with robbery, second-degree kidnapping and motor vehicle theft, officials said.
