A 43-year-old man wiped tears from his face Friday after a jury convicted him of four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and a count of rape in a home-invasion robbery that left two dead and another near death.
in Denver District Court in the stabbing deaths of Jacqueline Collette Gallegos, 28, and Nelson E. Swiggett, 42, on July 12, 1994.
Mack Martinez was repeatedly stabbed in the attack but survived.
Sims’ co-defendant, Andre “Dre” Jackson, was sentenced to life without parole in October for first-degree murder and several other charges. Co-defendant Jackie McConnell entered a plea to second-degree murder in March. McConnell is to be sentenced March 9.
DNA evidence was used to gain grand jury indictments against Jackson, Sims and McConnell in 2012.
As many as six masked men posing as federal drug agents kicked down the door of a home in the 3200 block of Larimer Street, Martinez told police.
