Look for March to come in like a lion around the central Rockies.

The weather pattern will be chilly and stormy and could include some decent snow opportunities in the mountains and even some chances for plowable snow in the Denver area.

An upper-level ridge dominated the West well into the month of February, keeping the weather quiet and milder than normal for the first part of the month. However, the pattern reversal that took place late in the month is expected to last into the first week or two of March, with the jet stream or storm track farther south through the southwestern United States.

This pattern will bring wet Pacific systems into California, and then through the Four Corners states with enough cold air coming down from the north to produce snow across Colorado.

Temperatures in the first half of March will average below normal, then recover to near above normal late in the month.

Denver’s normal high is 50 and the normal low is 22 in early March; these normal highs and lows rise to 54 and 26 in mid-March and to a normal high of 58 and a normal low of 30 in late March.
