The 2015 Lakewood mayoral election has gained a new participant with Ward 1 Councilwoman Ramey Johnson announcing her bid to lead Colorado’s fifth-largest city.

She’s the second person to declare and in the competition to replace term-limited Mayor Bob Murphy.

, Johnson’s top priorities include making city government more transparent and accessible, keeping government spending and taxes in check, along with limiting negative impacts of new real-estate developments.

“We can do better than the status quo. We can do better at bringing real transparency to government,” Johnson said. “As mayor, I would bring honesty, maturity, integrity and a caring ear. I would bring a fresh new standard. No excuses. We can do better to preserve the character that attracted us all to this city that we love.”

Johnson has lived in Lakewood most of her life, attended Jefferson High School and spent decades in different health care professions after receiving a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Colorado Health Science Center. She served in the state legislature as the representative of House District 23 from 2003-04 and has served on City Council since 2011.
