NFL teams had until Monday, March 2 (2 p.m. MT) to use their franchise tag on an unrestricted free agent, which locks that player into one-year, fully guaranteed deal and prevents them from hitting the open market while they negotiate a longterm deal. “Nonexclusive” tags allow a player to continue to negotiate with other teams , but gives his incumbent team the right to match any offer. “Exclusive” franchise tags give the incumbent team all the negotiating rights.
