Two people have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man found slain in an Arvada home on Monday afternoon, court records show.

Leslie Christine Barrett, 44, and Billy Scott, 53, are being held in the case on suspicion of second-degree murder.

An arrest affidavit identified Barrett as the one authorities say shot the victim.

The shooting happened Monday afternoon at a home on the 8400 block of Gray Street. Police were called out to the residence at about 4:30 p.m. when they discovered the homicide.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the slain man as 44-year-old Troy Pitman. The office said a ruling on his cause of death is pending an autopsy slated for completion on Wednesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, a verbal and physical argument precipitated the shooting.

Barrett admitted to investigators that she shot Pitman, the affidavit says, characterizing her actions to a dispatcher as in self defense.

Pitman was shot once in the back, records show. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Barrett is being held at the Jefferson County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond, jail records show. Scott is being held at the jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Both suspects are due back in court on Monday.
