GOLDEN — A 25-year-old man Tuesday was sentenced in Jefferson County court to 72 years in prison for attempting to kill a police officer and four others in a high-speed chase through Arvada.
The January 2014 incident began at an Arvada bar where Maksim Khamov and Igor Skorev were drinking with two couples. Later, after a verbal altercation, the two couples noticed Khamov and Skorev tailgating them.
Soon after, Skorev leaned out of the passenger side window and fired shots at the couples, hitting their car, a news release said.
When Arvada police tried to stop them, the news release said, “Khamov drove directly at them, attempting to run over them with his car.” Police fired, and Skorev died of gunshot wounds.
