A man and woman are under arrest after allegedly using a weapon to steal a vehicle and leading police on a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph, according to Aurora police.

The carjacking took place early Thursday in Glendale, said Glendale police Capt. Michael Gross.

The chase began at 9:53 a.m., when a patrol supervisor spotted the vehicle, which was carjacked near 5001 E. Mississippi Ave.

Officers “tried to initiate a stop at (East) Sixth Avenue and Moline (Street). They failed to stop for us,” Sgt. Chris Amsler said.

Because officers had information suggesting the suspects were armed, they began to chase the vehicle. The two drove east on Sixth Avenue before turning onto Interstate 70. They went north on Peoria Street and east on 56th Avenue. They turned onto Pena Boulevard, drove south on E-470, and got off at 56th Avenue, near Denver International Airport.

Because there was no traffic nearby, officers veered a patrol car into the rear quarter panel of the vehicle, and it spun out and went off the road, where the two were taken into custody.

Aurora police later identified the suspects as Samantha Jo Sears and Christopher Alexander Sanchez.
