University of Denver senior defenseman Joey LaLeggia cleaned up at the National Collegiate Hockey awards Thursday.
On a day when he first was named a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the nation’s top hockey player, LaLeggia was then awarded the NCHC’s player of the year, defenseman of the year and offensive player of the year.
Freshman forward Danton Heinen was named the league’s rookie of the year and Trevor Moore was named the forward of the year.
LaLeggia has 38 points on 13 goals and 25 assists this season, leading all NCHC defensemen in goals, assists, points, game-winning goals (three), power-play goals (five) and shots on goal (129). He is tied for second among defenseman with a plus-minus of +15.
Moore was the scoring leader in league games with 30 points. His 20 goals for the season is tied for the conference’s overall lead.
Heinen currently leads the NCHC’s overall scoring race with 44 points and ranks second for points by a freshman in the nation.
