
The board of education for Jeffco Public Schools on Thursday reversed its decision to consider an alternate plan for reforming and rearranging a group of schools.
The board also voted unanimously to approve the original Jefferson Area Plan, which was when the board asked staff to seek community input on the alternate idea.
The district held multiple meetings this week in the .
“Our parents, students, and staff spoke overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the Maple Grove community together and proceeding with the original Jefferson Area Plan,” said board member John Newkirk, who rescinded his motion for the alternative option.
The the Manning School in unincorporated Jefferson County take over the Everitt Middle School building in Wheat Ridge, which would have allowed Maple Grove Elementary to expand into Manning’s building. That plan is now tabled.
The plan going forward involves closing the Wheat Ridge 5-8 School, creating a seventh-through-12th-grade Jefferson High School, and expanding Stevens Elementary to serve students through sixth grade.
The portion of the plan that wasn’t approved last month was allowing Stevens Elementary to move into the Wheat Ridge 5-8 campus.
According to the district’s news release, Sobesky Academy also is scheduled to move to the Stevens Elementary building “to expand needed special-education services in support of the growing demand for these services in Jeffco Schools.”
