Police on Friday said an observant witness played a crucial role in the eventual apprehension of a man and a woman suspected of robbing a Fort Collins bank Thursday afternoon.
The suspects — Kody R. Davis, 33, and Amanda N. Menard, 31 — were arrested later that day just across the Wyoming border.
According to the police report, Menard entered Western States Bank, 1520 E. Mulberry St., around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. She handed a note to the teller and demanded money.
The employee complied and Menard left the bank. She then fled in a gold Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Davis.
After the robbery, the teller told the next customer what had happened. The customer then went outside and observed Menard entering the car.
“The witness called 911 and provided an excellent description of the female suspect, the suspect vehicle and its license plate,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “(Larimer County Sheriff’s Office) dispatchers relayed that information to deputies, enabling them to quickly locate and pursue the suspects.”
Authorities pursued Davis and Menard north on Interstate 25, deploying multiple tire-deflation strips. The pursuit came to an end about two miles into Wyoming.
“Colorado State Patrol and Wyoming Highway Patrol assisted LCSO deputies and the male and female suspects were taken into custody without incident,” the news release said. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified and is assisting with the investigation as well.”
Both suspects are being held in Laramie County, in Wyoming, on allegations of robbery, conspiracy to robbery and theft. Davis is also being charged with vehicular eluding and reckless driving.
